Firas Maraghy is a Palestinian from Silwan in East Jerusalem, where his family lives for 150 years, married with a German wife and fights with a hunger strike since July, 26th, 2010, in front of the Israeli embassy in Berlin, Germany, for his right to live with his family in East Jerusalem, because Israel doesn’t want to give his newly born daughter a “Laissez Passer” and let them live in East Jerusalem.

The Israeli idea is that Firas shall choose: does he want to live with his family - and give up his residence status himself after some years - or does he want to live in Jerusalem without his family. The reason why Israel forbids it is plain and simple: Israel wants to get rid of the Palestinians of Jerusalem.
Rolf Verleger, former member of the “Zentralrat der Juden” - Central council of Jews - (in Germany) and now head of the “Jewish Voice for a Just Peace in the Middle East - EJJP” German section comments it in the lefty German paper “Junge Welt” this way:
The officials in the Interior Ministry in Jerusalem, who explained Firas Maraghy that he has no rights to his homeland, may live theirselves only for 15 years in Israel. They claim these rights because they are Jews and Mr. Maraghy not. We are ashamed as Jews in Germany, descendants of people who had once been stripped as Jews from the German state citizenship, that a country which is called a “Jewish state”, deals with our fellow human beings in such a way.
As Firas story is exemplaric for Israels bureaucratic way of ethnically cleansing Palestine from the Palestinians now the place in front of the Israeli embassy in Berlin turned into a meeting point of people from Palestinian, Germany and other places in the rest of the world. Muslims, jews, christians and atheists altogether protest there against the racist policies of the state of Israel. Every couple of days demonstrations are hold in various places all over the city of Berlin to show solidarity with Firas. Even major news outlets in Germany cover the flagrant racism of the state of Israel on an almost daily basis and start to break the taboo and speak out the obvious.

Par·tei·buch n. German: Booklet with personal data and number to prove membership in a party
[…] Jerusalem is a very old town. Since ages it was shared by jews, christians, muslims and many other people. The zionist Israeli regime occupied Western Jerusalem more than six decades ago and the rest of Jerusalem a couple of years later. They broke with the ages old tradition, that Jerusalem is a place for peoplle of all faiths and by the way of silent and slow ethnic cleansing they try to transform Jerusalem into a place with a Zionist majority. Firas Maraghy fights against this racist Israeli policy with a hunger strike in front of the Israeli embassy in Berlin, Germany. […]
