In a remarkable article “You and I and the Next War” Uri Avnery expresses his serious concerns about preparations for a new war in Israel and the USA.
As Uri Avnery outlines, the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is entrapped in a situation of lost popularity and is seriously in need of diverting attention from his private and political troubles. As the reason for the war is just trying to get back lost popularity it would not really matter much against whom the war would be. Just anything goes - Palestinians, Lebanese, Syrians or Iranians - as long as the Israelian people will follow him.
In a very similar situation to Ehud Olmert is the President of the United States George W.Bush. He has almost two more years to stay in power as commander of the most powerful military forces of the world and during this time he could start any war he wants. As Uri Avnery points out, George W. Bush and his fellow Neo-Cons are just planning to start a war either against Syria or against Iran. The situation is similar to Ehud Olmert. As the reason for the war is just trying to get back lost popularity for Neo-Cons it would not really matter much against whom the war would be.
The propaganda to prepare the people for the new war is just rolled out as well in the US and in Israel. Those who cannot believe how the US government lies to find reasons for a war, may be remembered to the fictive weapons of mass destruction, the fictive link between Saddam Hussein and Al Kaida and last not least the Blair-Bush deal, which was a planned conspiracy to provocate Saddam Hussein to find a reason for war and was revealed by the guardian newspaper about a year ago.
Uri Avnery finished his article with the words “Bush and Olmert and the Next War - HELP!”. That’s what this article is all about. Hopefully spreading the word will prevent the warlords in Israel and the USA to start a new war.
